This article selected towns with at least 50,000 residents and a median family income between $40,000 and $100,000. The list of towns were narrowed by school performance, crime rates, number of schools, job growth, family income, museums, parks, theaters etc. A main priority was the performance and safety of the school but also considered was the affordable cost to attend school. There are many other places that are great to raise kids but for example, Greenwich, Connecticut wasn’t on the list because it costs too much to live there even though it has great private schools, low crime and a bunch of cultural amenities. So the list may not be perfect for all families due to factors such as crime and high cost of living that knocked off places.

So looking at the towns in the state, I first chose New Jersey because that’s where I am from. The best town to raise your kids is in Edison, New Jersey. The population is 101,420 and the median household income is $96,640. Edison is an affordable city with good schools and low crime. For New York, New Rochelle is the best place to raise kids according to this article. It has a population of 95,209 and the median household income is $49,850. It is an ethically diverse place with an active downtown and a mix of apartments and single family homes. Pittsburgh is the best town to raise your children in Pennsylvania. It has a population of 317,821 and the median household income is $49,102. This town used to be known as a steel town, but it has expanded in businesses such as technology and health care. It has a low crime rate and 28 colleges and universities.

  1. I noticed that they have a minimum on the population for consideration to the list. That may work fine for the majority of the states, but a lot of states in the Midwest have a smaller population. It seemed that Business week then just picked the largest city in those state, which, may or may not be the best place to raise kids. Either way, it’s still a good base for people looking to raise families in appropriate cities.
