Shift of Power

by Tom Flynn
As you all know, there has been a new president elected. Due to the shift in power from the Republicans to the Democrats, the way businesses are run will be greatly affected. Generally speaking, the Democrats tend to come down a little harder on business than do the Republicans.
With that being said, we all know that Yahoo and Google been in talks for awhile of merging together prior to the recent election. Both of these web companies are in the top three web search and advertising companies in the business currently. Many feel that if these two companies were to merge it would certainly eliminate competition within the web search industry and could possibly become a monopoly. Not only have these two companies been in talks, but also Microsoft has offered a deal to merge with Yahoo. Unfortunately for Yahoo, Jerry Yang rejected their initial offer which happened earlier this past year and now their shares have dropped considerably and Yang has asked Microsoft to open negotiations once again during the past week.
We really have not heard anything about Google and Yahoo since the recent election and that may be because of the Democratic Party taken over the power, not only the presidential election, but also in the House and the Senate. Now companies like Wal-Mart probably are not happy about the recent election, because I am sure the Democrats will come down hard on them because of the way they do business. It will be interesting to see what happens in the next four years and what kinds of regulations come about that will have an affect on the way businesses across America will be run.
